Six rules that fix most fresher resumes we review.
- 01
One page if you have under 3 years of experience.
Recruiters spend seconds on a first pass. Cut anything that doesn't support the role you're applying for.
- 02
Lead with a 2-line summary that names the role.
“Frontend developer (fresher) — React, TypeScript, REST APIs; built 3 deployed projects.” beats a generic objective.
- 03
Projects are your experience — describe them like jobs.
What you built, the stack, and one measurable result: “Reduced page load from 4.1s to 1.6s by…”
- 04
Match keywords to the job description honestly.
Applicant tracking systems filter on skills. Use the employer's wording for skills you genuinely have.
- 05
Use a plain, single-column layout and export to PDF.
Tables, icons and two-column templates often break when parsed. Name the file Firstname-Lastname-Resume.pdf.
- 06
Put links where they help.
GitHub, portfolio or LinkedIn — only if they're up to date and show work relevant to the role.
Pick one target role first
Learning paths only work when they point somewhere. Choose a role, then list the 5–6 skills that appear in most of its job descriptions.
Build two portfolio projects, not ten tutorials
A project you designed, deployed and can explain in an interview is worth more than many follow-along courses.
Practise fundamentals daily
30 minutes of aptitude, SQL or DSA practice a day compounds faster than weekend marathons.
Learn to explain your work
Write a short README for each project: problem, approach, trade-offs, what you'd improve. It doubles as interview prep.
Preparing for an interview?
Common questions, the STAR method and a day-of checklist.
